I read: Our Dreams at Dusk
A mini-review
I read Our Dreams at Dusk, a manga by Yuhki Kamatani.
It’s a story about self-discovery and self-acceptance of a closeted gay teenage boy. He finds a queer community that helps him in his journey. The story shows glimpses of the journeys that the people of this community took or are still taking.
I’m not part of queer culture or communities. I appreciate that this story gave me some insight the struggles of queer people and how they – like everyone – benefits from a supportive network.
I appreciate that it is not preachy. It just shows people’s experiences. That felt very refreshing.
It also shows that even well-intended compassion can hurt the recipient for reasons you may not understand.
